Spring is here! Leo the Lion.
You know that Spring is here when the constellation of Leo the Lion is in the southern sky.
Notice the planet Mars underneath the constellation.

Meet the Microbes!
Use the following presentation to answer the questions on your “Meet the Microbe Sheet”
Photoelectric Effect
Hi Physics lovers,
Here are a few links on this wonderful topic:
This video is a recap on what happened in the lab this afternoon when Mr. McKenna, the technician, demoed the electroscope discharging when UV light was shone on the zinc plate on top of the electroscope.
Photoelectric Video on electroscope discharge.
Run the above simulation and find out the minimum wavelength of light needed to eject electrons from different metals
Nasty Nine Health Test 001
Hi physics lovers here is your Nasty Nine Health Test.
Go through the slides and record your answer on the paper grid then click the link below the slides to record your answers
Intermediate 2 Physics Circuit Practice.
This is a fantastic piece of simulation software from PhET which allows you to build electric circuits and study what happens when you change resistance or voltage.
Download the simulation by clicking on the picture.
To get you started why don`t you build this circuit
Investigate:
- How the current in the circuit changes when the 8 ohm resistor is doubled
- How the voltage will change across the 24 ohm resistor when the 8 ohm resistor is doubled.
Have some fun building more circuits and investigating the the current, voltage and resistance of the circuit.
S2 Class Microbe Note Taking Skills
My S2 class took part in a note taking exercise. They were asked to work in threes and research information on microbes.
After discussion in their respective groups a recorder had to write down the key facts they had found in their research.
Photographs were taken and uploaded into a Google Docs presentation document.
The slides from the presentation were printed off and each pupil then pasted the classes notes into their notebook or can look at the notes here.
Microbe Research by my S2 Class.
A couple of white boards and pens and a research task and my S2 pupils set of to pick up information around the class on microbes.
They recorded their information and in groups they had to decide which piece of information had to go on the small whiteboard.
I then took a picture of each white board and made this presentation with google docs.
Refraction Fun
Click the link below to download this simulation.
You can try out different situations where light is refracted. Have fun!
Total Internal Reflection
My fellow physics teacher Mr Mackenzie from Thurso has produced a wonderful little movie summarizing what we talked about last day in physics, namely Total internal reflection.
I will let Mr Mackenzie explain:
